This is an incredible drink to help boost the immune system and help with cold & flu symptoms. For a full hit of nutrients, use Manuka Honey. I know it is expensive but when needing the boost with your immunity, there is no comparison!
There are many varieties of this recipe, some that used powdered turmeric and ginger to make a paste, which is handy if you don't have fresh ingredients on hand. I personally prefer fresh ingredients but have included both for your convenience.
FRESH INGREDIENTS
- knob fresh turmeric, peeled (approx 2cm)
- knob fresh ginger, peeled (approx 2cm)
- 1 tbsp ghee or coconut oil
- 250ml coconut water
- 250ml coconut milk
- 1 tsp - 1 tbsp honey or maple syrup (adjust to your preferences)
TUMERIC PASTE INGREDIENTS
- 250ml water
- 1/2 cup turmeric powder
- 100g ghee or coconut oil
THERMOMIX METHOD
- Place turmeric and ginger in TM bowl and blitz on speed 9 for 3 seconds and scrape down side of bowl OR use one tsp pre made turmeric paste.
- Add remaining ingredients to TM bowl
- Cook at 80C for 4 minutes speed 4.
- Pour through strainer into mug and enjoy!
- Sprinkle with a dash of cinnamon or pepper for added flavour
TRADITIONAL METHOD
- Put turmeric, ginger and ghee into a mortar and pestle and grind into a paste, or use 1 tsp premade turmeric paste
- Combine milk, water and honey into a saucepan with medium heat.
- Add turmeric/ginger paste and stir continuously
- Pour through a strainer into mug and enjoy!
- Sprinkle with a dash of cinnamon or pepper for added flavour
